The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 charges at the judicial center on Friday

A person who contaminated sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and 10.

The accused was detained after eight children and an older person fell ill at the location in mid-summer.

The 76-year-old, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he ran.

The man engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the following morning.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.

The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his family member had worries about the activities, justifiably.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including baby oil, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She explained the defendant went on to play the "sweet game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not responded by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member notified the authorities again.

She stated Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a area of five minors.
