19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents his first title after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after March of that year.

The win also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair swapped break points in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his first professional championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close final set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
